I'm not clear on what you are really getting at but I do know that there are a lot of annoyances with bookmarks. Netscape had started down a great path and Mozilla has not even gotten back to that point. There are a couple firefox extensions that synch bookmarks to server. Are you looking at implementing search on a website as well as in the fat client (browser) or just one or the other?
