I was able to get the Zend debug on 5.1 working a couple of months ago, 
both from a Mac and Windows client.  At the time I was connecting to a 
WAMP on a Windows 2003 server. 

I had problems if the code ran too long - I think that it a timeout 
issue, but I didn't explore it further as I was able to debug in small 
chunks.
