I'd also like to hear factual data about Smarty. I live in Java (and a little python or ruby) and templating is incredibly valuable. In my (crappy) php I wrote it didn't have templates but after looking at Smarty, I really think it would have benefited from Smarty. Is it a bad templating solution?
