While the Nodes seem great, would it be possible to
implement a simpler WikiWord style? I've setup a
UsemodWiki, and while it's perl and pretty nasty to
configure), it's also very easy to get new users up
and running. It looks like Chiki will eventually
include all of the features I could want (uploading,
users and groups, css, GREAT interface, etc), but I'm
concerned about a few usability isues.
What I like about Usemod is that just joining any two
words will automatically make a new link. No need to
include the node as a prefix. I'm concerned that if I
give this to everyone on an Intranet, they'll get lost
easily. Would it make sense to only need the node
prefix if you're linking to a seperate node space?
ALSO, in Usemod there is a way to distinguish
WikiWords with and without content. It places a
question mark link to the right of any brand-new
WikiWords, so you can see which ones don't have a page
behind them yet, like this:
ExampleNewWikiWord ?
You can then click on the underlined question mark to
add content for that page. This is a quick-and-easy
way to distinguish new and old links. (I've noticed a
number of links on the Chiki site are empty, but I
can't see that without clicking on them and going
back.)
Also, it would be *great* if my login would stick in a
cookie until I logged out specifically. Logging back
in each time to edit a page is a pain, since it
doesn't redirect me back to the page I was trying to
edit...
Anyway, just a few ideas. I'm still getting Chiki up
and running (and used to the whole Wiki ideas), so
please excuse any misinformation I may have.

I share your concerns and agree that these issues should be
addressed/considered.
And, ideally this 'conversation' would be taking place on
Chiki but I too had problems CreatingNewNodes ;)
Chiki is very cool because of it's install simplicity... it
could open up Wiki environments for many other users,
citing your comments about difficulties with perl based
wikis.
Cheers
