What operating system are you using?

I have found the problem you say with crafty versions >19.9 on Solaris 
with both Shanes Scid and ChessDB. I discussed it with Robert Hyatt 
(Crafty's author) some time back, but despite spending some time trying 
to find the problem, I was never able to. I guess it will have to be 
revisited. This is what Robert said
