The 'Illegal Type' check should not apply within the body of a matching class or a subclass thereof.

For example, it is perfectly legitimate for abstract class AbstractA to refer to instances of AbstractA, although one would probably wish to restrict such references according to visibility modifier.

Conceptually, there's only a problem when classes other than AbstractA (or a subclass thereof) refers to AbstractA.
