it would be great to be able to produce comma separate
value (CSV) output. Such a file could then be imported
and further analyzed - e.g. with the pivot table feature!

    Perhaps I miss something nut for me it is not obvious what
    information should contains this CSV file? CVS is useful for
    table representation, but in our cae we have two tables:
    files and errors.
    Do you means file which will contain lines of the following
    format for every error:

    <file>, <line>, <column>, <severity>, <source>, <message>

    Or do you want something else?

    yes, the csv export need not be in third normal form, i.e.
    sure, it can be combination of your two tables "files" and
    "errors" as you propose.
