Would be great if Checkgmail included support for these new notifications. However, since it's a form of feature bloat (especially for versions that aren't compiled for Ubuntu!!), I'd understand if this was rejected.

A minor fork might be nice though :)

    There appear to be two aspects to this. There is notify-osd which involves the notification bubbles and then there is the notification-applet where notifications go to after showing up in bubble form. The advantage to the notification-applet is that it allows consolidation of icons in the notification area. I really like a lot of things about checkgmail but I will be very tempted to move to any mail notification application that uses the notification-applet icon instead of its own.

    @zorkerz,

    I think that's a bit too radical of a change to introduce by default.

    I could see it happening as a menu option, but the checkgmail icon has other uses besides simply *checking gmail*.

    weird this is zorkerz. When I sign in the 'Add a comment:' button is no longer a button so I cannot comment. I have only been able to get the comment button in firefox 3.0.10 instead of 3.5b4pre.

    @lfaraone

    I agree with you entirely a menu option for this would be a good solution.

    Hello, I would really like to see the new notification system of Ubuntu working with this great software.
