#63 Checkgmail works only with reduced functionality

A significant number of recent posts in the Ubuntu forums have reported that within the last week or two checkgmail has stopped working. Typical behaviour is:
checkgmail cannot log-in. The box asking for username and password appears repeatedly. Checkgmail will however work in the no_cookies mode, and many users seem to have switched to this.
