#4 Read config options from a file

It would be good to be able to read the configuration
options from a file instead of or in addition to using
command line options.

it would be great if this could be a standard extention
of the GetOptions stuff, but other maintained code
would be helpful as well.

I agree, this would be useful. Our script for starting Checkbot is confusing to use, because the shell interacts with our regular expressions in unpredictable ways.
