Dear User, To improve the quality of data and service we provide we have decided to restructure the data we have in ChEBI. From the 10th January we will no longer be exporting ChEMBL compound data records. Users will be able to retrieve this information directly from our partner database ChEMBL (www.ebi.ac.uk/chembldb). All data will continue to be text- and structure-searchable and all links will continue to work. However, if in the course of a search a user finds a ChEMBL compound he will be redirected to the ChEMBL database. Our Web Service will continue to provide the ability to search all compounds. However, we will not provide the ability to extract data from a ChEMBL record directly. We believe that implementing these changes will help to keep ChEBI amongst the top tier of chemistry-related databases. Best Regards, The ChEBI Team |

Dear ChEBI users, with sincere apologies for cross-posting. We are pleased to invite you to attend our second ChEBI User Group Workshop, which will take place in the IT Training Room at the European Bioninformatics Institute in Hinxton, UK on the 23rd and 24th June 2010. There will be an exciting line-up of speakers, including Peter Ertl from Novartis speaking about 'Natural Products', and several intensive discussion sessions during which you will be given the opportunity to influence the future evolution of the ChEBI project. We will also provide training on ChEBI including using ChEBI for research purposes and submitting your chemicals to ChEBI for annotation. Information about the workshop, including the full provisional schedule and the link for registration, is available at www.ebi.ac.uk/training/onsite/CHEBI_230610.html. We hope to welcome you to Hinxton in June. Kind regards, the ChEBI team. |

Dear users, ChEBI release 63 is now available, containing 536,978 total entities, of which 19,501 are annotated entities and 678 were submitted via the ChEBI submission tool. ChEBI would like to announce the release of its new Web Service providing access to all 2 star data. This is version 2.0 of the Web Service. The previous version is still available but will be phased out by June 2010. ChEBI Web Service 2.0: http://www.ebi.ac.uk/chebi/webServices.do Best Regards, The ChEBI Team |

Dear users, Once again we would like to remind our users that as of Release 62 ChEBI will have over 440,000 entities. See our original announcement below. However, due to logistics we have decided to move our release dates to the first Wednesday of every month instead of the last Wednesday of every month. Hence the next ChEBI releases are scheduled as follows: Release 62: 4 November 2009 Release 63: 2 December 2009 Release 64: 6 January 2009 etc... Dear all, ChEBI release 61 is now available, containing 18933 annotated entities, with 413 of those submitted via the ChEBI submission tool. With this release, we've upgraded the engine behind the ChEBI structure search to use the OrChem Oracle chemistry toolkit (http://orchem.sf.net/). See our entity of the month, Chloroquine, at http://www.ebi.ac.uk/chebi/init.do#Entity. The next ChEBI release is scheduled for 28 October 2009. Best regards, the ChEBI team. |

Dear users, We would like to announce that as of Release 62 (28th October 2009) ChEBI will contain over 440,000 chemical entities. The additional data is coming in from the ChEMBL (http://www.ebi.ac.uk/chembl/) resource which focuses on the interactions of pharmacologically active molecules and their receptors. ChEBI will continue to manually annotate entities to a high standard but we will supplement our entities with additional ones from the ChEMBL resource. In the light of this extra data we would like to make you aware of a few changes that might affect you as a user: 1. Manually annotated ChEBI entities will be clearly distinguished from the manually annotated entities sourced from ChEMBL by a starring system. Although ChEMBL is of a high quality it does not have the same focus on nomenclature and the ontology as the current ChEBI entities, and therefore we will be allowing users to distinguish between the two. Current ChEBI annotated entities (and future ones) will be indicated as 3 star entries (maximum). ChEMBL and submitted entries will be indicated as 2 stars. We will continue annotating ChEBI entries following our existing high standards. 2. All the data will be freely available and provided from our downloads section. All the current download options will be provided in two flavours, namely 3 star ChEBI entities only and all the data including ChEMBL. 3. We will roll out a new search engine which will result in a different wildcard for searches. The current wildcard (%) will be replaced with an asterisk (*). 4. We will roll out a new ChEBI Web Service (version 2). This Web Service will provide new methods as well as access to all the new data. The old Web Service will continue to exist but will not have access to all the new data. We intend to shut down the old Web Service within 6 months of launching the new one. Finally, we would like to reassure all users that ChEBI will continue to maintain the same annotation standards that are currently provided. The new influx of data will not in anyway affect the high standard that ChEBI is trying to provide, but will rather supplement our already existing data.
