New term request, modeled on the existing 'calcium ionophore' CHEBI:22986 and 'iron ionophore (CHEBI:24874)

name: potassium ionophore
is_a: ionophore (CHEBI:24869)
def: Any ionophore capable of transportation of potassium ions across membranes.

From text on the relevant CHEBI pages, it looks like valinomycin (CHEBI:28545) could be moved to "has role potassium ionophore (CHEBI:new)". I don't know whether you would also want to use multiple ion-specific has_role links for compounds such as nigericin, in light of the statement that "Nigericin acts as an H+, K+, Pb2+ ionophore.".

    Hi Midori,

Now done: potassium ionophore (CHEBI:88227). I think it is reasonable to assign a compound to more than one 'xyz ionophore' role class if it has been shown to act on more than one type of ion, although at the moment we only have separate categories for iron, calcium and potasium ionophores and the situation doesn't currently occur. No doublt if we get asked for a complete 'periodic table' of ionophore terms, things will change!

    Cheers,
    Gareth
