Hi,
In ChEBI, a radical ion is_a radical. We requested that superoxide be is_a oxygen radical. Since superoxide is a radical anion, should it not also be a radical? Comment in GO/ChEBI spreadsheet says, 'This is a radical anion rather than a radical.'
Thanks for the clarification.
Tanya and David.
Hi,
Our definition in ChEBI of radical ion follows that given in the IUPAC 'Gold Book', viz. "A radical that carries an electric charge." Hence our inclusion of 'radical ion is_a radical' and 'readical ion is_a ion' relationships. The ChEBI entry for superoxide (CHEBI:18421) has parentage
superoxide (CHEBI:18421) is a diatomic oxygen (CHEBI:33263)
superoxide (CHEBI:18421) is a inorganic radical anion (CHEBI:36876)
superoxide (CHEBI:18421) is a reactive oxygen species (CHEBI:26523)
and includes the branches
CHEBI:26519 radical
>>CHEBI:36875 radical ion
>>>>CHEBI:36873 radical anion
>>>>>>CHEBI:36876 inorganic radical anion
>>>>>>>>CHEBI:18421 superoxide
CHEBI:24870 ion
>>CHEBI:36875 radical ion
>>>>CHEBI:36873 radical anion
>>>>>>CHEBI:36876 inorganic radical anion
>>>>>>>CHEBI:18421 superoxide
by which are inferred
CHEBI:18421 superoxide is_a CHEBI:26519 radical
and
CHEBI:18421 superoxide is_a CHEBI:24870 ion
If I read your request correctly, this is the situation that you desire. OK?
Marcus
Sorry, Marcus. This comment made sense at the time I typed it out but now it is just confusing! In any case, it appears that 'superoxide' is currently not is_a 'oxygen radical'.

Should it be? We think, 'Yes.'
Thank you.
Tanya
Hi Tanya,
Don't know why this got stuck here in 'Pending' for such a long time. Apologies! I've now added the relationship superoxide (CHEBI:18421) is a oxygen radical (CHEBI:61073).
Hope all is OK with you.
All best,
Marcus
Thanks, Marcus.
