#5 Include option to show file name along with picture

I have several thousand family pictures stored on my
computer. The directory structure indicates when and
where the picture was taken. It would be nice if this
was shown along with the picture when used in screen
saver mode. This option is available on windows XP.
Also it would be nice for an option to get rid of the
slow transitions or speed up the slow ones.

I'm a 15 year veteran MS Windows programmer. I'm
thinking of making the change myself. Any suggestions
on a book to help me get started on programming in
Linux? I recently installed the Mandrake distro.
