following the install instructions, I run
./configure && make

the output is as follows:: command not found; command not found; command not found; command not found; command not found; command not found; command not found; command not found
'/configure: line 68: syntax error near unexpected
token `do
'/configure: line 68: `do

I am running redhat 7.1.
