This is the README for CHASERS.

***Installation***

(more detailed directions are in INSTALL.txt in ./database/pg/client/)

1) change to the correct database directory (only pg is currently supported)

2) As postgres super-user run install.db.sql (read this script for instructions on creating the db and user)

3) after editing and making any structural changes, run install.sql from same directory

4) edit chasers_config.php and config/client_config.php accordingly (making sure to select the
   various tables/objects installed in step 3)

5) in the scripts directory, run enable_changed_at_trigger.php to enable automatic changed_at updates

6) in the scripts directory, run enable_table_logging_all.php to enable table logging for all appropriate tables

7) browse to the install location and get started...


***Installation Troubleshooting/Common Pitfalls***

* If username/password combo is being rejected, verify that $CG_AUTH_DEFINITION in chasers_config.php
  is configured to match your database password storage structure (eg, flipbit storage versus md5).

* pages are loading blank
  a) make sure memory_limit in php.ini is at least 32M
  b) while setting up installation, set display_errors = On in php.ini


***History/Initial README***

This is the initial dump into CVS of a new information system for
the Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC).  In case anyone doesn't
know, DESC is a non-profit agency serving the most disabled and vulnerable
homeless adults in the Seattle, WA (USA) area.  DESC provides a continuum of care
that includes emergency shelter and survival services, clinical services
including mental health and chemical dependency, and supportive housing,
both permanent and transitional, with clinical resources on-site at
each facility.
 
With a tentative working title of CHASERS (Client Housing And Service Entry
and Reporting System), the goals of this system are to capture information
about the clients served at DESC, and the services we provide.  Goals are to
produce information to faciliate a variety of purposes, including contract compl
iance
reporting, information for agency promotion and conveying to the community what DESC
does and why it's worthwhile, providing better services to clients (both by
streamlining and facilitating access to all the information about an individual,
and by providing data on groups of clients for analysis towards understanding
needs and improving service delivery), and finally to facilitate and streamline
operations at DESC.
 
CHASERS is intended to replace SHAMIS, DESC's currently operational system,
which is used in the shelter and mental health programs.  Goals for CHASERS
that address identified weaknesses in SHAMIS include increased reliability,
access from multiple sites, a truly integrated system that captures information
agencywide, and improved reporting ability that will make the information
in CHASERS more easily accessible, and from a larger number of staff people.
 
(Please note that this is not a formal or official statement of CHASER goals
and characteristics, merely a hastily-produced general outline that probably
has several important omissions.  Canonical definitions can be found elsewhere.)
 
At the moment of this dump, CHASERS is extremely embryonic.  It currently has
some sloppy and hastily-implemented code to provide lookup and display of
clients, and to provide browsing and reading of the log system.  Both of these
are currently operating off data mirrored from the shelter system.
 
The first goal for CHASERS is to duplicate the functionality of the shelter
SHAMIS system, which would allow us to turn that system off, and to save
significant staff time that is currently devoted to maintaining shelter Shamis.
 
Within shelter SHAMIS, the log system has been identified as the first
target for replacement, as it is super-problematic.
 
If I understood the cvs HOWTO, and got the tags right, this "version" of
CHASERS has been designated 0.1.
