#7 Add transition modes

Since I'm using a PowerBook Pismo, I can never hope to have
Quartz Extreme running on it, and as such, probably due to
Apple's laziness, I'll never be able to have nice, crossfading
transitions between the desktop pictures.

It would be nice to have the ability to pick from a few transitions,
like crossfade, venetian blinds and other kinds of transitions.

The transition effects on QE machines are controlled by the Finder's
random mode. So even if you have a machine that supports QE, you
won't see the trans. effects using ChangeDesktop (since it is doing the
randomizing and not the Finder.) But, ChangeDesktop does not display
the pictures; the Finder does. ChangeDesktop selects the picture, and
then passes an Alias to the Finder to have it change the desktop.

What this all means, is that unless I re-write ChangeDesktop to do its
own desktop picture drawing (supplanting the Finder), I can never add
trans. effects; even for QE enabled machines.

I'll leave this open for now, but it's doubtful this feature will ever be
implemented.

Brian,

Since the latest release version now claims it doesn't use
the Finder anymore, does that mean that this feature would
be feasable?

I've been an Objective-C developer since 1992, so maybe I
could help?

No, the latest release does not require the Finder, but it
still requires some other app in it's place to do the acutal
drawing of the picture. Such as Path Finder.

I've got some prelim. code going for drawing my own
pictures, but it's nowhere near done. If you'd like to help,
that would be much appreciated. I can check in what I have
to CVS and add you as a project dev..

Sure, I could have a look. I haven't done a lot of graphic stuff in the past, but I can look. I'm also kind of busy finishing an application update, so don't expect anything in the next couple of weeks or so, but I would really like to have this feature!

how about adding transitions like Cube? I'm currently looking for an app
that changes the desktop image AND supports transitions.
ChangeDesktop has a great feature-set, but transitions are missing :(
