#50 can't access menu extra

I'm trying to run version 3.0.3 on a Powerbook G4 with Mac OS X 10.5.5. When Change Desktop launches, the desktop pic DOES change, and the menu extra appears along with the license agreement. As long as I don't touch the License Agreement, I can at least access the menu extra and see the options, but selecting any of the options (e.g. preferences) doesn't seem to do anything.

Once I agree to the license agreement, any time the cursor comes into the menu extra area of the screen, it turns into the spinning rainbow wheel. In effect, I have no way of setting any preferences or doing anything else with Change Desktop. Activity Monitor shows Change Desktop as "not responding"
