I have continous problems with boost. Whether I compile boost from sources or use SUSE boost rpms there is not such thing as boost_python.I've got a shitload of libboost_something, but no such thing as libboost_python. I hit exactly the same problem when trying to compile visual python...
Without any further details I cannot say what went wrong. How did you invoke bjam? Were there any error messages during compilation?
Make sure the Pythno devel package can be found by bjam (you can specify the root path with the option --with-python-root), also make sure that the correct version is used (--with-python-version). To speed up things you can also build boost_python alone using the --with-<library> option. See http://www.boost.org/more/getting_started.html#Build_Install
