it sounds like thats because its not your server and it seems very unlikely
that you will be able to run an identd. for ident to work the identd has to
be triggered by incoming connections on a privilaged port so unless you have
root access you have no way to set this up.

  I've been obedient and browsed through the archives. So I'm posting my
question here hoping someone would help me out. I'd installed cgi:irc and I
could log in but it appeared to fail at identd request. I wanted to install
identd.pl but the dirs recommended by the help files were not available in
my host server. i only have a public_html, which is the root, followed by
cgi-bin and some other sub-dirs. So where should I place the identd.pl and
what files must I change to reference to it?
