Try downloading and installing

Then in your ~/.cgdb/cgdbrc do 'set cgdbmodekey=key'. Key can be any
normal key on the keyboard, or a keycode string. For example, <F1> or
<PageUp>.

Make sure to give us feedback on if this is useful. If so, we'll
consider adding it for the next release.
