When I did an audit of Servers in SJ, found that
approximately 1/3 of Servers ( 15 ) had failed to auto
negotiate with switch and reverted to half duplex. The
switch port fas set to 100/Full. This mismatch resulted
in large number of collisions and possibly caused
intermittent CEPS Windows printing problems to server
connections timming out.
It seems that by default switch ports for servers are
set to 100/Full . If both switch port and server port
are set to aoto negotiation it may lead to race
conditions. So we should set the server to fixed
100/Full to minimize discrepancies between server and
switch ports. Given that we now use a initrd to load
network drivers during boot up this would mean giving
the appropriate switches to the network modules during
loading.
Suggest we send thsi out with the next release of CEPS.
Have already discussed this with Damian.
