Looks likes there's a series of if/thens check to ensure there's a folder slash at the ending of the $HOME var. If there isn't then it's trying to append a slash, then a null char? When executing cdw as user, I get the following config file created: $ ls -alh ~/*cdw* -rw------- 1 roger roger 1.8K May 7 01:24 /home/roger/?.cdw.log The above, CVS version of CDW only creates cdw.log, while cdw-0.4.0 creates the cdw.log & cdw.conf, but prefixes with "?." as above (or "\21." within strace output). Basically, when cdw is executed as user, files created are prefixed with "?." (strace output as "\21.") While, when cdw is executed as root, files created are named as expected (ie. /root/.cdw.log). Here's an strace diff comparison of cdw executed as user and root. --- Begin Snip --- > ioctl(1, TIOCGWINSZ, {ws_row=55, ws_col=184, ws_xpixel=1656, ws_ypixel=1008}) = 0 110,113c110,113 < ioctl(1, TIOCGWINSZ, {ws_row=51, ws_col=165, ws_xpixel=1650, ws_ypixel=1007}) = 0 < brk(0x8a34000) = 0x8a34000 < brk(0x8a55000) = 0x8a55000 < brk(0x8a76000) = 0x8a76000 --- > ioctl(1, TIOCGWINSZ, {ws_row=55, ws_col=184, ws_xpixel=1656, ws_ypixel=1008}) = 0 > brk(0x9840000) = 0x9840000 > brk(0x9861000) = 0x9861000 > brk(0x9882000) = 0x9882000 116c116,117 < brk(0x8a97000) = 0x8a97000 --- > brk(0x98a3000) = 0x98a3000 > brk(0x98c4000) = 0x98c4000 130c131 < write(1, "\33(B\33)0\33[?1049h\33[1;51r\33[m\17\33[4l\33[3"..., 44) = 44 --- > write(1, "\33(B\33)0\33[?1049h\33[1;55r\33[m\17\33[4l\33[3"..., 44) = 44 132,133c133,134 < lstat64("/home/roger/", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0700, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0 < access("/home/roger/", W_OK) = 0 --- > lstat64("/root/", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0700, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0 > access("/root/", W_OK) = 0 136c137 < open("/home/roger/\21.cdw.colors", O_RDONLY|O_LARGEFILE) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) --- > open("/root/.cdw.colors", O_RDONLY|O_LARGEFILE) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) 139c140 < mmap2(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) = 0xb78b6000 --- > mmap2(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) = 0xb77f5000 143c144 < munmap(0xb78b6000, 4096) = 0 --- > munmap(0xb77f5000, 4096) = 0 148,149c149,150 < open("/home/roger/\21.cdw.conf", O_RDONLY|O_LARGEFILE) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) < write(1, "\33[?1h\33=", 7) --- End of Snip --- You can see, cdw wants to create files prefixed "?." as in "/home/roger/\21.cdw.colors". On further attempts to deliminate this bug using printfs for printing variables, I noticed variable "home_dir_fullpath" has been improperly defined as "/home/roger/\21" and should read just "/home/roger"! I tried tracing further back to functions cdw_fs_get_home_dir_fullpath and to just after getenv call within function cdw_fs_init_home_dir_fullpath and still have yet to be to lose the "\21." anomally -- my guess, unclean used variable and/or abnormal error output with permissions not caught? -- Roger http://rogerx.freeshell.org/ |

It seems all the rippers use freedb for the recognition. But freedb doesn'= t include many extended attributes (like Composer, Studio, etc.) or cover a= rt and it's not always accurate. My friend just installed Plutohome.org, an open source Linux media project.= Whenever he inserts a CD, it recognizes the disc, displays the cover art,= along with all the detailed attributes, like a Windows XP Media Center doe= s. It also seems to cache this locally since the next time he puts the dis= c in the recognition is instant; first time there's a 2 second delay or so.= Can this identification engine be used instead of freedb? Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hey All, There are several new cdw package for different distributions. Gabor Szollosi has been created packages for Debian Sarge. Scott Richman has been created packages for Slackware. Karoly Barcza has been created cdw package for BlackPanther Linux which is compatible with Mandrake RPMs. As Karoly informed me the BPL package works together with XFree86-4.4! But he will create a package for previous version of XFree if the license (XFree license) keep at current state. I have published the new packages on cdw homepage (http://cdw.sf.net).=20 Thanks to everybody! Trey: if you reckon that as interesting please publish it on hup! if not, I'm apologize :-) bye vbali |

Hi! There is the 0.2.2 version of cdw. The main changes: I have removed the fuckin' lame hotkeys from options and cdrip window and I have replaced them with form inputs. There is a basic level color change feature for console mode cdw. Check the cdw.colors under /doc and copy it to your home. It uses ncurses colors. The SQLite database automatical creates database if doesn't exists. This release contains the GTK compile bugfix patch too. I have removed the Gzip document support because it was needless :-) bye vbali |

Hi! I have modified some part of code of cdw. So, there is the color change feature and I modified the options window. The options window has been completely rewritten (I haven't finish with it!!!) and the example color configure file is under doc. Just copy it to your home directory with same name (cdw.colors) and enjoy... :-) My changes on CVS. bye vbali |

Hi All! As Krix explain on UHU-Linux development mailing list, a lots of users doesn't uses the disk catalog feature of cdw because it has need MySQL. He proposes to us to use SQLite instead of MySQL. I wouldn't like the remove MySQL related parts from the code, but I thinks he’s idea very good. I checked the documentation of SQLite and I have been starting to add SQLite support for cdw. The cdwdic console tool already contains this support (I will upload my changes to CVS tonight) but the hard coding part still to come. I hope I can present something good in a little while! Hi! I released the 0.2.0 version of cdw today. It contains mainly bugfixes. I have changed the authentication method of cdwdic. The CD catalog search method has changed to REGEXP from LIKE. The SCSI device input box length has been extended on GTK. This facilitate to insert the ATAPI: prefix for the SCSI device number. The Spanish documentation and translation has been added. The Changelog contains all the changes. I published the homepage with the new portal system. We can manage all the site over HTTP and we can check the statistics much easier. If any of you want to access the administration page please send me an email and I will create an account. I’m looking forward to your comments, ideas... -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi! Today I've published a patch for pre3 witch solve problems in write direct feature. Some versions of cdrecord doesn't work without -tsize parameter when data comes from pipe. This patch contains the bugfix for that error. I've commit my changes to CVS and published the patch in download section on homepage. I've redeveloped the homepage again :-) Currently it isn't published but I will do it soon. I've developed a complete portal system witch is very similar to PHP Nuke. I will create a theme for cdw in the portal system and I will publish the portal. Miki: if would be possible I would like to develop the PHP interface of disk catalog for this portal system. Can you - and would you like to - help in this part of dev.? I have started to develop a homepage for my new project "spamrecognizer" and I have tried to create an universal php code - witch will useable in other projects for example cdw. That was > the problem with the "add files" window also. If the string is longer then > the allocated space menu lib cannot display the text. Please fix this bug! yes, you are both right. this time i checked most translations in ncurses and adjusted them. but there seems to be a bug with ncurses and utf-8 diacritical characters: these characters are displayed but neither count as one char, nor as two chars (or bytes?) in ncurses' calculations. as soon as there is a diacritical, i can make the string shorter or longer, it always fails to draw the last char, whatever that char is, of the line. and for some reason the two german utf-8 files downloaded from CVS, lost their ability to display diacritical characters. though i assume that my mail system is responsible for that (since i had a problem with my signature when sending a mail in utf-8). so this time i packed them together into one file. now for something different: - gcc 3.3.2 complains with a warning when compiling, see att. 1, att. 2 contains somewhat a fix. - the Makefile in po/ did not work out for me, after the changes seen in att. 3, it works - 'make install' should not install the pixmaps if there is no gtk gui installed. - ncurses: the dialog 'add file' should remember where it was used last, so that i do not have to navigate from my home-dir to the audio-dir every time i decide add more files. - ncurses: the dialog 'create image' finishes while it says it has only created 99% and not 100%. :) ok, that it is it for now. cheers, sebastian -- ::: .O. ::: ..O ::: OOO ::: lynx -source http://www.kodeaffe.de/shensche.pub | gpg --import |

The text input fields are scrolling the text to left if it's longer then the field. As I remember the size of SCSI device field is 5 character. When you enter to this field you can find the cursor arter the last character. With example: if the SCSI device contain the 0,0,0 and you enter this field, cdw will put the cursor afther the last 0. So, this will longer than the input field and the text will scroll to left. If you delete some character with backspace you will find start of text! bye vbali |

Hi there. So this is my first mail for this list :) btw i want to suggest some "new" features for cdw future releases. Here is my list : - Global config file support (Example in /etc) We talked about this global config file with vbali. Now actually the cdw has got one config file. In this conf stored everything. Example mysql user pass and login name. I think cdw needs some "cut out" The global things we can store in /etc/cdw/some.conf and in /home/user/.cdw we can store user specific configurations. Example the user mysql pass and login name. cddb database settings, etc..etc.. In the global conf i suggest put the cd-rw device the speed and everything else that could be global :) - Backup feature ? The user selects one directory (ex.: for archiving) and cdw do a size calculate with split. Example if the dir is a 1.2gb then split to two segment (650mb - 650mb) and write it to two disks. Label the disk with actual date and some information about what backuped. :) - What about bootable cd writing ? - Implement some basic DVD writing things ? - VCD / SVCD writing support ? Example from avi or mpeg via mencoder ? - Some list creation. If we writing from directory then we can ask cdw to create a list from the files (ls -lr ? or something else) and put this list file on the cd after the data. - Please rewrite the settings ncurses dialog. It's a little bit ugly :) Example the function "buttons" BUG: when i go to settings screen (ncurses) and press -i think- F1 for select cdrw device (0,0,0) then i got ,0,0 Why? :) Best Regards Christian Hamar alias kRiX |

I received a buglist from Gabor Sari (He is the webmaster of www.linux.hu). He sent me the his comments. Some string in the Hungarian version are stayed in English. In the options menu the text of the General and the Other tab. In the "CD size" window the text 74 Min, 80 Min and User defined. If he add files to the CD he can check the full size of CD at the bottom of screen. But if he delete all the files cdw show 1077147225 MB in the bottom of sceen instead of 0 MB. It has been suggested to create confirm window before Blank CD-RW. It has been suggested also to remove the "No audio CD" text from the CD rip window and put it into single message box. If he start the CD rip he receive the message "Audio directory not exist!". He answer "Cancel" but cdw create the ./audio directory. After he try again (when the audio directory exist) and cdw say: Audio directory not exist! If he answer "Create" cdw say: "Cannot create directory" and segfault! He found these bugs in the GTK version of cdw. I tried to reproduce the errors but I couldn't found the most of the errors. I know about some text witch are untranslated. Are you found any of these bugs? bye vbali |
