I can't write dvd-rw disk with cdrecord. dvd+rw-tools work perfectly
fine, but I don't want to use both tools to record cd/dvd when I can
only one. I'am using OpenBSD 5.8
First I blank dvd with:
$cdrecord -v -dev=/dev/rcd0c -blank=all
Using generic SCSI-3/mmc-2 DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD-RAM driver (mmc_dvd).
Driver flags : NO-CD DVD MMC-3 SWABAUDIO BURNFREE
Supported modes: PACKET SAO LAYER_JUMP
Drive buf size : 751616 = 734 KB

Then I reload disk and writing with:

I suspect that problem with bad media/manufacturer, but dvd+rw-tools circumvent
this somehow.
Thank you!

Hi Artur,
It seems that you are suffering from a similar kernel bug as recently discovered
on Linux.
Is this device connected via USB-3?
Background:
the kernel reports a DMA residual count that is equal to the expected transfer
count and there is no other (real) SCSI error reported.
Given that cdrecord decently evaluates all possible error states, it stops
writing because of this error reported by the kernel.
If dvd+rw-tools work for you, then this is most likely a result of ignoring the
error codes in dvd+rw-tools.
You can tell cdrecord to ignore this specific error situation by adding the
option:
scgopts=ignore-resid
to your command line.
Note that you need to upgrade your outdated cdrecord first, in order to be able
to do so.
