I am creating Ubuntu chroots running wine dating from the present all the way back to Breezy (2005). This is for the purpose of emulating a virtual disk so a disk would not have to be inserted to play a game running via a wine chroot. I believe having the ability to download a chroot and install games on it or download already installed apps (legally of course) and insert the files into the given prefix would greatly enhance the viability of Linux as a replacement for Windows.

Not being able to acquire older versions of cdemu is going to greatly reduce the quality of this endeavour. Please can anybody help me with this?

Thank you,
Jeff Smith

If the question is about existing packages for older Ubuntu versions, we do not keep any of those around (due to them being outdated and unsupported by the package maintainer).

The source tarballs for all released versions of cdemu are still available in the "Files" section, though. So perhaps your best bet is to build the version of cdemu that was released at around the same time as the target Ubuntu version; this way, you can at least be more or less sure that all dependencies will be met (compiling newer versions of cdemu on such old Ubuntu releases will likely prove to be a not very fun endeavor, though)...

I just realized how stupid this question was. It seems that cdemu will not even run in a chroot let alone compile in one. The way to go seemed to be installing it on the host system, loading the image using cdemu, mounting the image using fuseiso, and then launching your wine game in the chroot. This yields a fully working installation. I was hoping to package everything in the chroot for convenience, but that is not possible... I believe.
    Thanks for your help
