Treatment of dir /b/s | CCCC does not work

Im am running win2000 and it seems like the
recommended treatment of complex code structures
does not work. In the manual it is proposed that the
user types
dir /b/s | CCCC
this does not seem to work,
type FilesToCCCC.txt | CCCC
where FilesToCCCC.txt is a file with absolute file paths
to different targets.

dir /b/s | CCCC -
and don't forget the -
