Have a look at http://sta.c64.org/xcables.html. Given the age of the cable it might be X1541 or XE1541, but surely no XM1541 or even XA1541. If your cable contains diodes it's most likely a XE1541, so you'll only have to swap to pins to get it working with cbm4linux.
