Hiya Ive built myself a Y cable with 2 x DB25s and 1 x DB15.... soldered in th= e parallel port into a 1541-II and cut pin 1 on VIA #1...... plugged everyt= hing in along with my trusty XM1541 (been using it for years) and I get: [simon@desk001 other_assorted_disks]$ d64copy -v -v -v -t p -r 4 8 hunchback_hattrick.d64 [Debug] transfer mode is 3 [Info] Trying to identify drive type [Info] drive 08 (1541): 00, OK,00,00 [Info] copying tracks 1-35 (683 sectors) and then it just hangs...... however it works in serial mode.. Ive double checked the parallel port in the 1541 carefully, and Ive just tested the parallel portion of the cable with a multimeter (assuming that= the other bit works since serial is still working), and its all perfect. I have tried ECP and ECP/ECC mode for the parallel port, with no effect. Can anyone think of anything I can try to get this working? Thanks ps. Im running: Linux version 2.6.8.1-10mdk (np...@n3...) (gcc version 3.= 4.1 (Mandrakelinux (Alpha 3.4.1-3mdk)) #1 Wed Sep 8 17:00:52 CEST 2004 if that makes a difference..... -- =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D Simon Scott si...@pl... mob: 0409113359 =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D |

Hello, I start to hate c4l. :-) I managed to compile it and load the module on my laptop. Unfortunately, as soon as I plug in the XAP adaptor, it switches off immediately. Well, this parallel port is used for the floppy drive, too, so I assume some lines which are assigned to the floppy drive (and not to the parallel port) are not allowed to be connected with the XAP adaptor. Ok, I tried another machine with Knoppix: Unfortunately, Knoppix does not allow for write access in /usr/. Ok, I adjusted the prefix. Now, it compiles and installs. cbmctrl reset works as expected. Unfortunately, cbmctrl status 9 (my drive is #9) blocks the whole system, I have to reboot "by switch". Any suggestions? Regards, Spiro. -- Spiro R. Hello, after porting cbm4linux to Windows, I thought I might give cbm4linux a try. ;-) Thus, I compiled it on a Debian/Woody (stable) system with kernel 2.4.18 and tried to start it with insmod cbm.o. Unfortunately, I get the answer: cbm_init: could not register with parallel port lsmod hows Module Size Used by Not tainted [...] parport_pc 25704 1 (autoclean) lp 6912 1 (autoclean) parport 21728 1 (autoclean) [parport_pc lp] [...] I already added alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc options parport_pc io=0x378 irq=7 to /etc/modules.conf, and run depmod after it. To me, it seems parport is correctly installed: # cat /proc/ioports [...] 0378-037a : parport0 037b-037f : parport0 [...] # cat /proc/interrupts [...] 7: 0 XT-PIC parport0 [...] I assume my parallel port is already in use. Anyway, I do not know who is using it, nor do I know how to stop it. I tried to stop lpd, but this did not help, either. Can anybody help me? Thanks, Spiro. -- Spiro R. Hi, Has anyone managed to compile cbm4linux on SuSE 9.2? My kernel version is 2.6.8-24.10-smp, which is installed via YaST online update. I have applied the parport_enumerate patch. Hi guys, > I have been asked if cbm4win/cbm4linux can handle an Oceanic > OC-118N drive. In this special case, it is equipped with Jiffy DOS 5.0. All _I_ can say - having no Oceanic drive or Jiffy DOS - is that no report ever proved that The Star Commander's disk turbos or transfer routines would be incompatible with third-party clones of the Commodore 1541 drive. Apparently, those clones are compatible enough... ;-) Jiffy DOS has to be switched off or disabled, though, I guess. Hello, I'm proud to announce the availability of cbm4win, version 0.1.0 (first public release). I know that this list here deals with cbm4linux. Anyway, as cbm4win is a derivative of cbm4linux, I found it natural to announce its availability here. What is cbm4win? cbm4win is a port of cbm4linux [1] to Windows. It allows for access to a VIC 1540, 1541, 1570, 1571, or even 1581 floppy drive from the PC on Windows NT, 2000 and XP. Which operating systems are supported? Currently, there is support for Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows 2003 Server. Previous versions of NT have not been tested, but they might work, too. Is Windows 95, 98 or Me supported? No, there is currently no support for these Windows versions. Anyway, support for Windows 98 Second Edition and Me is planned. I do not know if it will be possible to port it to Windows 98 First Edition, though. What can I do with cbm4win? The most important things you can do is to copy D64 or D71 images from a real drive to the PC, or from the PC to a real drive with the help of d64copy. Furthermore, you can copy single files in both directions, too. Some more tools (for example, cbmctrl) are given, too. Is there 3rd party support for cbm4win? VICE [2] will have support for cbm4win in the next version. There is an internal version of YAPE [3] which supports cbm4win, too. Other people have already showed interest in supporting cbm4win in their products, too. What is the development state of cbm4win? This is the first public announcement of cbm4win. Because of this, there is high probability that there are still errors. What hardware is needed in order to use cbm4win? Of course, you need a PC running Windows NT, 2000, XP, or 2003. Furthermore, you need a real drive, like the VIC 1540, 1541, 1570, 1571, or 1581 (1581 not fully supported). Then, you need an XA1541, XM1541, XAP1541 or XMP1541 cable in order to connect the driver with the PC. Acknowledgements and Thanks Cbm4win is heavily based on cbm4linux [1], written by Michael Klein. Cbm4linux itself uses work from Star Commander [4], written by KOVÁCS Balázs a.k.a. "Joe Forster". I like to thank both for their steady help and their patience. Furthermore, I want to thank the following people: - Michael Klein for cbm4linux and many discussions. I do not know if I would have started this project without this. - KOVÁCS Balázs a.k.a. "Joe Forster" for Star Commander, his advice, and for giving me cables for free to work on this project; - Wolfgang Moser for steady discussions, testing, and bug reports, as well as giving me some more needed equipment; - all of my testers for steady tests, reports, and discussions. Contact, Download, Further Info: cbm4win can be found and downloaded at http://www.trikaliotis.net/cbm4win [5] Furthermore, I have setup a project page on sourceforge: http://sf.net/projects/cbm4win/ [6] If you want to submit bug reports, I would thank you for submitting to the bug tracking system [7] over there. There are even two mailing lists available for announcements [8] and for user discussions [9]. If you want to contact me directly, just contact me at cb...@tr..., or go to my homepage at http://www.trikaliotis.net/. Any hints, suggestions, and the like are welcome! Happy transferring, Spiro. Hello, the attached patch fixes a possible crash if cbmformat or d64copy are called with a long option which is not known. It seems that cbmcopy is not affected by this bug "by accident". In the declaration of the long_opts[], it was forgotten to mark the end of the list with an entry which consists completely of zeroes (cf. getopt_long(3): "The last element of the array has to be filled with zeroes.") Examples for this error: Try cbmformat --zzz d64copy --zzz Regards, Spiro. -- Spiro R. Trikaliotis http://www.trikaliotis.net/ |

Indeed it did! Now it works very well /Mats There's a silly bug in the above function. Ok, another try: Can you send me the image via PM? Please compress it before sending. Regards, Spiro. -- Spiro R. Trikaliotis http://www.trikaliotis.net/ |

Ok. >W: Have you tried without specifying -2? From a brief view, it does not seem to have any effect on this message, but to be sure... (D71 always use 2 sides, so there is no need for specfying it). Yeah the same error occurs. |

Hi! > No error here, just a warning. Is that the complete output? Yes, it was the complete output. > Did you check /proc/interrupts? Uuh, i didn't check this and this was the problem. I had to add a kernelparameter like "parport=0x3bc,7" Yes, it works :-) > > I did't use make-kpkg because it made a lot but nothing which belongs to > > cbm4linux :-( > Can you be more specific? Well, usally i don't use make-kpkg and so i didn't know how to use this tool exactly. My computer worked like i entered "make bzImage" but in the end there was no cbm4linux*.deb. I saved my first old floppy disk and i'm very happy. > Good luck! Thanks a lot! Daniel |
