New Release Improves Playablility

Another major version has been released: 0.3.0.0

This release makes the game much more playable. Card movement is now controlled by clicking and dragging, a solution area has been implemented, and victories by the player are detected.

See the last release news for a quick description of how to install the program.

Project Roadmap Posted

I have kind of been planning out feature/functionality implementation in my head. I decided to commit it to a sort of project map, indicating what requirements need to be met for each version number. Check it out in the project documentation section:

http://sourceforge.net/docman/?group_id=131298

In other news, I have been having problems updating the website. That is very unfortunate, because many people probably never even look at this page. The new system (which is probably more secure) is much more difficult to use than the old system, so it may take me awhile to figure out how to upload webcontent. Also, CVS will probably have to wait until my firewall setup changes.... read more

Alpha Playable Release!

The first playable release of CarolSolitaire has been posted to the file section. The game now deals the cards and allows you to move the cards within the playing region. There is currently no 'solution' region where you can stack cards up by suit starting at ace, so technically the game cannot be won.

Many features are present on the GUI but are not functional (undo/redo, load/save, etc.) These are simply placeholders to make the addition of those features go more smoothly later. Remember, this is an Alpha release, which means that major program functionality has yet to be implemented.... read more

Release: Updated GUI, began Model

I have another release up on the project page. I have now implemented the toolbar and the html-linkable help files. I also started programming the model with a Card class. A new screenshot has been placed on the website and the project page to demonstate the progress.

Also, you can now take a look at the cards that I will be using for the game. There is a link on the webpage that now works, it is http://www.nongnu.org/cardpics This is a free card set, and you can download it and take a look.... read more

Web Page Up

I have gotten the webpage up and running for the project. I wanted to get it out of the way so that I could concentrate on the programming. As far as I am concerned, it is basically finished except for one broken link until I have actually completely finished the game. Then some niceties like help and such may be added.

Also, I will probably periodically update the screenshot loaded there. CVS is my last hurdle!

First Release: GUI Shell

In only one day I have progressed from the planning stage to Pre-Alpha. The MVC framework has been coded up, and a simple GUI shell is already working. The source should be compilable and runnable, but there is almost no functionality in the program. All that is working is Exit and Help->About.

This release is v0.1.0.0 and is source only. I have also created a screenshot of the program 'in action'. Quick note about versioning: the version numbers are Major.Minor.Micro.Nano ... read more

Project Launched!

Carol's Solitaire project has been launched!

You can read the ruleset for the solitaire game (meant for me as a developer more than a "how-to-play") and the planned "extra" features on the Docs page.

Software has already left the planning stage as I have written the main application-level Java class for the program. Soon to follow are some basic GUI elements so that the project is compilable/runnable (but it will have no functionality).... read more
