In telephone conference today (12/Sep/11) Philippe of LSCE agreed to provide a new (reduced) list of regions.

Connected to Issue 83. We are only zooming to the region, not masking. So for some regions the application zooms to the whole globe (e.g. Northern land, Southern land). Philippe will reduce the list of regions so that they don't overlap in this way.

While doing this we should also check the extents stored with each region. For example "nothern land and ocean" zooms out too much: it shows the whole world plus half a world on each side. "Tropical land" is better, it just shows the whole world

Philippe has provided a new list of regions. We should now implement this.

We should check that Philippe has stuck to regions that existed in the old list, and not added any more!

The new list of regions is here

We should wait on this issue  because the partners have been considering reintroducing masking of the regions (Philippe Peylin 29 Jan 2012). If we reintroduce masking, we would want to use the same region list on maps and charts! So we would not need to make this change
