Good suggestion. Now that you suggest it, I think it should be both:

1. A command-line argument.
2. Handled like you suggested, with interface querying.

I think (1) because, in the cases of jt2osg and jt2pfb, the user may want to
build scene-graphs that reflect this instancing, or not.

I think (2) because it is consistent with what we are doing already.
