The rrnet-version of 64net/2 has got some additonal functions.
Diskimages can now be easily created with create:disk.dxx,header,id. Also mkdir is now included, as well as empty dirs can be scratched.
Also, for each clients now a uid, gid and umask can be given. Created files then get a chown and chmod respectively and are afterwards e.g. unreadable/writeable for other clients using the same server. I might extend this, so that it can even be used per parttion, not only per client.
Last but not least further speed improvements were made on the kernal-patch. Loading speed is now at awesome 50kb/s.
Due to recent changes and optimizations on the kernal side of 64net now loading speeds reach 44kb/s.
Last weekend i had the chance to gather more than one C64 with a RR-net module to check multiclient-abilities. The tests were all successfull and i thus will do a new release really soon now. Documentation has been updated (documentation/README.rrnet), all necessary changes are in the CVS already. I also got closer to some slight bugs on c64 side that seem to be a issue of inproper handling of the RR itself. More comfort will also be added (like a kernal-patcher for more convenient patching of your ip- and mac-adress)
The latest CVS version now makes use of the RetroReplay network-module for easy and fast file transfer with 64net/2. There are now also plans to enable multi-client support, so that several c64s will be served by a single 64net/2-server over a normal ethernet, by using UDP packets.
Appropriate documentation for setting up this version, as well as a dedicated tarball will be put online soon. (means, when the doc is finished ;-) Be aware that comfort (regarding setup and configuration) still has to be added :-)
64net/2 can now be compiled with good old rs232 with null-modem cable and Swiftlink cartridge as transport layer instead of special parallel cable. If you want to test 64net/2 - don't hesitate and try null-modem version, but remember that parallel version is more than 10 times faster.
Compiles nicely but is currently unusable. Please read forum for more.
64net/2 is finally ready to be used. Not everything works as it should, but even now it's perfect for browsing large file/disk images archives on a PC by C64 commands.
