#105 installation fails because SOCKDIR is hard coded

I'm installing with a non-root user and the make install fails with this error :

mkdir: cannot create directory ‘/var/run/c-icap’: Permission denied

Why is the SOCKDIR variable not using the PREFIX like others do ?

You are right.
It should use the runstatedir (which is based on prefix) from autoconf.
