Hello again, I have tried to prepare a small XPI for customizing the latest ByzantineOS and also the jEdit-4.1final.xpi Included is also the latest HOWTO about installing ByzantineOS on HDD and CF. From the README: -------- ByzantineOS Customization Toolkit (byzgl-ct) ============================================================================ > What you need 1) A ByzantineOS GNU/Linux distro 2) The byzgl-ct.xpi 3) A HDD of more than 64MB free space (EXT2 or EXT3 partition) > Let's begin : reproducing the ByzantineOS ISO image 1) Boot the ByzantineOS CD 2) Install the byzgl-ct.xpi (ByzantineOS Customization Toolkit) 3) Start XTerminal 4) Type: "cd /Home; mkdir lala" (without the "") 5) Type: "mount /dev/hdXX lala" (where XX is the HDD partition you want to use) 6) Type: "cd lala; tar xjvf ../ByzantineOS.tar.bz2" 7) Type: "cd ByzantineOS" and finally 8) Type: "make" (this will create a new ByzantineOS ISO image) > ByzantineOS Customization The configuration files that you can edit/customize are placed in the 'Config' directory. Make your changes and just type: "make". > List of files and description 1) Config.Bookmarks : the mozilla bookmarks 2) Config.Clock : set UTC=yes if your clock is set to UTC (GMT) 3) Config.directfbrc : the DirectFB configuration files (usefull for left-handlers) 4) Config.DropIns : the ByzantineOS DropIns configuration file (useful if you want to install ByzantineOS on a HDD partition or CF) 5) Config.fb_modes : Sample video mode (used by DirectFB non VESA2 modes) 6) Config.Fonts : the fonst.alias for X Windows 7) Config.fstab : the /etc/fstab file 8) Config.gconv : glibc gconv installation files (if you need more character encodings than you must edit this file) 9) Config.hosts : the /etc/hosts file 10) Config.inittab : the /etc/inittab file 11) Config.iPilot : the iPilot startup page (if you need change the startup page; defualt is the application manager: "chrome://applications/content/applications.xul". You can use any HTTP URL for this. Useful for iKiosks) 12) Config.Locale : decide which locale (based on your location and language) and which character set you want to use) 13) Config.Mozilla : default properties for mozilla (use maybe to predefine a proxy server) 14) Config.MPlayer : command line options for MPlayer (you may want to change the -slang value) 15) Config.Network : the /etc/sysconfig/network file (network settings) 16) Config.Timezone : set TX=<time zone>, where <time zone> is a value suitable for the TZ environment variable 17) Config.Xkbd : X Windows keyboard configuration (you may want to change the default keyboard layout; default is the first entry in the /etc/ipilot.d/xkbd.xml file) Have a lot of fun.... the ByzantineOS team ---------------- !!!! In the last release i forgot to increase the number of available loop devices. The new GRUB menu.lst included inside byzgl-ct.xpi looks like this: # File /boot/grub/menu.lst - Bootmenu definition # default=0 timeout=5 splashimage=(fd0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz title ByzantineOS (Vesa2 800x600x16) kernel (fd0)/boot/linux max_loop=32 quiet vga=788 video=vesa:ywrap, mtrr initrd (fd0)/boot/inittar.tar.bz2 title ByzantineOS (Vesa2 1024x768x16) kernel (fd0)/boot/linux max_loop=32 quiet vga=791 video=vesa:ywrap, mtrr initrd (fd0)/boot/inittar.tar.bz2 title ByzantineOS (Vesa2 1280x1024x16) kernel (fd0)/boot/linux max_loop=32 quiet vga=794 video=vesa:ywrap, mtrr initrd (fd0)/boot/inittar.tar.bz2 title ByzantineOS (nVidia RIVA/Geforce) kernel (fd0)/boot/linux max_loop=32 quiet vga=791 video=rivafb:1024x768@16bpp initrd (fd0)/boot/inittar.tar.bz2 title ByzantineOS (ATI Rage128/Pro) kernel (fd0)/boot/linux max_loop=32 quiet vga=791 video=aty128fb:1024x768@16bpp initrd (fd0)/boot/inittar.tar.bz2 # TODO: MATROX Best Regards, George.
