#78 More tests required

The set of tests is rather incomplete. Some ideas for more tests:
- unit tests on I/O layer
- unit tests on socket support
- tests that generate visual output should have run, say, glxgears in a standard way instead of being tested ad-hoc
- there are probably more automated tests that can be run on filters.
