hi, I've been working on a completely new version of btrwiz. This is now available - btrwiz-20020723.tar.bz2. It is, however, an early alpha release. There is still more work to do on the replacer code. We are currently being help back by the java-gnome project - I am currently using code from their cvs as it is for Gtk+; there are still a few widgets to be implemented for java-gnome - these are ones we need. I probably won't be releasing many of these test releases, so if you want to test out the very latest alpha releases, please get the latest code from cvs. I am now going to have to put the btrwiz development on hold for a while. This is due to 1) Lack of time and motivation on my part; and 2) waiting for new upstream java-gnome development. Please feel free to try the code and send me patches and comments. If you're really interested in btrwiz, please also note that we now have a paypal donate button on the btrwiz page. http://tildemh.com/sw/btrwiz/ http://sf.net/projects/btrwiz --=20 +----------------------------------------------+ | Mark Howard cam.ac.uk mh344@ | | http://www.tildemh.com tildemh.com mh@ | +----------------------------------------------+ |

hi, I've been working hard on BtrWiz this week. Hopefully, I should be in a position to release an alpha version of the program within a week or two. This will be mostly fully functional, with the exception possibly of documentation and the treeview for controlling which pages are being viewed. If there are any Java Developers for the Windows platform listening - please can you help out with this project. If not, BtrWiz may turn into a Linux-only project. --=20 +----------------------------------------------+ | Mark Howard cam.ac.uk mh344@ | | http://www.tildemh.com tildemh.com mh@ | +----------------------------------------------+ |

hi, Work on BTRWiz is progressing, albeit slowly. I am currently working at developing java packages for the wizard interface. This will probably take at least another two weeks. One that is completed, I will be able to create the screens for BTRWiz and hopefully a beta version will be available a few weeks after that. All being well, btrwiz 3.0 should be released before the start of October. -- +----------------------------------------------+ | Mark Howard cam.ac.uk mh344@ | | http://www.tildemh.com tildemh.com mh@ | +----------------------------------------------+ |

I've now finished my exams and will start programming the next generation of Batch Text Replacer. This will a cross-platform version, with a similar graphical interface to previous versions, but with a few enhancements. The work will be in JAVA, using the JAVA-GNOME [1] system for the user interface. This will be primarily be developed under linux, but we will eventually get a system working in windows. We could *really* do with a windows developer helping us. The java-gnome has never been ported to windows (although java can be easily compiled natively in windows; and gtk is often used in windows under the Cygwin system) Hopefully, beta releases will be available by the end of July. We may be slowed down in some areas as the java-gnome developers are currently in the middle of porting to gtk+2 (we will only use the gtk+2 code). I will send many more messages as I am working on the software. If you are interested in helping, please get in contact with me. BTR Wizard quickly replaces multiple occurances of text over multiple files. This unique program scans folders for files matching filter critera then searches those files for any occurances of a text string and replaces them all. This is an ideal tool for many uses, especially for webmasters, for example to change a link in all pages of a site; or for programmers to update source code. An intuitive wizard interface make this very easy to use. BTR is currently implemented in Delphi for windows. I no longer use windows, so am unable to use or update the program I intend to create a cross-platform version of BTRWiz, using Java. This will be heavily related to my Index Generator program as the wizard interface code will be shared. I am currently looking for help developing this (using Java). If you are interested, please let me know. I will soon update the sourceforge pages with all details I have, including bug reports and all old versions into CVS. All relevant web pages care linked to from the sf project page at http://sf.net/projects/btrwiz/. Take particular note of the mailing lists. There will be many things I have not noted down on the web - please ask me lots of questions. Mark Howard |
