Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hi, I am looking for a pattern based Application Framework for Swing Based GUI Application. I have do design very rich Swing GUI with multiple toolbars, Menu bar, popup menu, spread sheet component. I have to connect to mainframe databse either by client-server model or 3-tier rmi server model. Do you think I am at the right place to use Bright Side Framework ? Do I have both (2-tier and n-tier) options with the framework ? I may need to use third party Swing Components (Spreadsheet Component) or any other pure Java Swing Components along with BS Components. Will it be difficult with BS Framework..? How does BS Framework will add a value to Swing Framework on Presentation Tier - how exactly it makes the things easier..? Is it something similar to Struts in J2EE Presentation Tier for Thick Client Swing Application ? Are there any known limitations of using such framework...? What are the other equivalent Thick CLinet GUI Frameworks Commercial / Opensource ? Thanks in advance. Dear Bright Side guest, Important news : * We have just released a JOnAS version of the BookStore, our e-commerce demo application built with the BS Framework. The BookStore was initially released in march 2003 on the Jboss server. It is now possible to seamlessly connect to either a Jboss or a JOnAS J2EE server. Test it via Webstart by connecting to our updated http://www.bs-factory.org page ! JOnAS is the Open Source implementation by ObjectWeb of the J2EE specification. JOnAS is part of the ObjectWeb Open Source initiative, which was launched in collaboration with several partners including Bull, the France Telecom R&D division and INRIA. * In addition, the Bookstore's code has been updated and is now based on the 1.0 release of the Bright Side Framework (available on sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/bsframework/). This will solve compatibility issues for those of you that were already using the latest framework release. You can download the Bookstore sources at http://www.bs-factory.org/BSFDocs/Bookstore/BookstoreSRCv1_3-FWK1_0.zip * Finally, as requested by a lot of users, a new packaging of the Bookstore's code is finally released. You now have everything you need to regenerate the files with Ant and XDoclet making customization easier, and for those of you just wanting to test the bookstore, it has never been any simpler... Have fun, Bright Side Factory _____________ J2EE eXtreme development - http://www.bs-factory.com (Community Site on http://www.bs-factory.org) |

Hi guys, As you know I am using Oracle 9i for running the bookstore, and I have some problems: 1) the scripts for the users table don't seem to be right: the date columns should either have a default value, like 'sysdate', or be nullable (I get exceptions from the database when I try to create a new user). Here is the good script, according to me: CREATE TABLE USERS ( USER_OID NUMBER (19) NOT NULL, USERNAME VARCHAR2 (32) NOT NULL, PASSWORD VARCHAR2 (1024) NOT NULL, FIRST_NAME VARCHAR2 (64), MIDDLE_NAME VARCHAR2 (64), LAST_NAME VARCHAR2 (64), USER_TITLE VARCHAR2 (16), USER_ADRESS1 VARCHAR2 (127), USER_ADRESS2 VARCHAR2 (127), USER_ADRESS3 VARCHAR2 (127), USER_PHONE VARCHAR2 (32), USER_MOBILE VARCHAR2 (32), USER_EMAIL VARCHAR2 (1024), USER_GROUP_OID NUMBER (19) NOT NULL, DISABLED NUMBER (1) DEFAULT 0 NOT NULL, CREATED_ON DATE DEFAULT SYSDATE NOT NULL, CREATED_BY VARCHAR2 (32) DEFAULT user, LAST_UPDATE_ON DATE DEFAULT SYSDATE NOT NULL, LAST_UPDATE_BY VARCHAR2 (32) DEFAULT USER, LAST_PASSWD_CHANGE_ON DATE DEFAULT SYSDATE, CHECK (Disabled IN (0, 1)) , CONSTRAINT USERS_U1 UNIQUE (USERNAME) USING INDEX TABLESPACE INDX PCTFREE 10 STORAGE ( INITIAL 128K NEXT 128K PCTINCREASE 0 ), CONSTRAINT USERS_PK PRIMARY KEY ( USER_OID ) USING INDEX TABLESPACE INDX PCTFREE 10 STORAGE ( INITIAL 128K NEXT 128K PCTINCREASE 0 )) TABLESPACE USERS PCTFREE 10 PCTUSED 40 INITRANS 1 MAXTRANS 255 STORAGE ( INITIAL 128K NEXT 128K PCTINCREASE 0 MINEXTENTS 1 MAXEXTENTS 4096 ) NOCACHE; ALTER TABLE USERS ADD CONSTRAINT USERS_FK1 FOREIGN KEY (USER_GROUP_OID) REFERENCES FWK.USER_GROUP (GROUP_OID) ; 2) I have problems with blobs: JBoss seems to be able to insert them, but not to read them. At the beginning, the tree table was empty, you app seems to have inserted 6 lines, and seems to read them afterwards, but gets exceptions instead. I give you the stacktraces in the attachment. As I get too many problems under Oracle, I am going to try to use MySQL, as it seems to be your prefered platform. ===== C'est au pied du mur qu'on voit le mieux le mur. ___________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? -- Une adresse @yahoo.fr gratuite et en français ! Hi guys, Some questions again: - On my opinion, it would be a good idea to give Crimson in the libraries of your framework. - in the bookstore app, what is the password of the "admin" user ? - in the bookstore app, why don't you give the SQL scripts for Oracle ? I am actually using Oracle, and could create the framework tables, but not the bookstore ones. NB: if you write the scripts, don't forget to transform the requests stored in the s_lov tables. Thanks, Marc. --- Eyrignoux Marc <eyr...@ya...> a écrit : > Hi guys, > > I have downloaded your framework, and: > - there is no user's guide > - it seems to map some tables in a database, but I > don't have the SQL scripts, or the Torque XML > database > structure > - it explicitly uses Crimson (package prefs), but > you > don't give it in the libraries > - as JBoss seems to be the privilegied target of the > framework (there are lots of XDoclet commands for > JBoss in the EJBs), why don't you give an > installation > guide under JBoss ? > > See you soon, > Marc. > > ___________________________________________________________ > Do You Yahoo!? -- Une adresse @yahoo.fr gratuite et > en français ! > Yahoo! Dear Marc, What version of the framework did you download? The last release ( 1.0 ) contains the scripts to build the jar and war=20 of the framework and also to prepare the database (create the tables)=20 before the first use. Indeed the scripts build jar just for JBoss but the Bright Side=20 Community will certainly appreciate if you make the work to migrate it=20 on another application server. The best way to start with bsframework is to install the bookstore demo=20 and to look the code of this application. Hi guys, I have downloaded your framework, and: - there is no user's guide - it seems to map some tables in a database, but I don't have the SQL scripts, or the Torque XML database structure - it explicitly uses Crimson (package prefs), but you don't give it in the libraries - as JBoss seems to be the privilegied target of the framework (there are lots of XDoclet commands for JBoss in the EJBs), why don't you give an installation guide under JBoss ?
