The importance of what it means to choose a piece is not brought out enough, its a forgetable fact and it's not something that's easy to pick up when you first step into it. It drives which piece metadata is being saved to or updated for, what label is being updated, which piece's information you are seeing, all of which are vital to the operation of everything else around it. Maybe make the action more prominent.
