BRL-CAD_7.20.0_x86.exe , downloaded from SourceForge, is infected according to Comodo Internet Security's anti-virus analyzer. See attached image.

That seems incredibly unlikely, but certainly warrants investigating. Does Comodo also report infection for other/previous releases of BRL-CAD too?

It does seem unlikely, doesn't it? But there it is, false positive or not...
I've never downloaded BRL-CAD before, so I cannot answer your question.

Would you try one or two of the previous releases to see if it detects an infection on the same anim_cascade tool (or any other tool)?
7.14.8 is OK
7.18.0 is NOT OK. (See 2nd attached image, to follow.)

I'd like to add that AVG anti-virus reports that the current latest version 7.22.0 is infected with "IDP.Generic.3CEAE297".
AVG doesn't report any infection in version 7.20.2 or 7.20.0.
