The mged mater command currently requires mandatory r g b and inheritance parameters for every invocation. I think it would be better if these parameters were optional rather than mandatory. If the parameters are omitted, then the r g b and inheritance values for the object would simply remain unchanged for the object. A bonus feature of this change is that it does not affect existing scripts in any way, because they currently provide the r g b and inheritance values, and these parameters are still effective when provided (they are just now optional, rather than mandatory).

    The mater command used to prompt interactively for all of its parameters, but that behavior was removed when code was refactored into a newer generalized library interface. The interactive behavior was restored, though, so all of the parameters are now optional once again.

    The initial fix is in 7.18.4 with a subsequent update specific to setting colors fixed more recently in 7.20.2
