BRL-CAD 7.14.8 on Windows XP

    Hi,
    I've recently installed BRL-CAD on my laptop and have been working thru the MGED Tutorial and using the Raytrace Control Panel doesn't render the raytrace on the graphic screen. The raytrace appears to run without errors in the command window, but the raytrace doesn't display.
    Additionally, both Archer and rtWizard lock up the m/c when I attempt to open a db. Archer displays no msgs, while the rtwizard display status box showing 40% completion.
    Are these know problems, or do I need to make a configuration change.

    Those are not known problems that I'm aware of.  For the raytrace that appears to run without errors, what happens if you just run "rt" in the MGED command window?  It should pop up a 512x512 window.  What about running MGED without any database open, then running:

    opendb test.g y
    make sph sph
    e sph
    rt

    Does that also display nothing?  Having the entire output displayed would be helpful.

    Thanks Sean, that seemed to work, see below, and using the rt command displayed the Tutorial example too.

    mged> opendb test.g y

    Hm, then that's even more bizarre as the raytrace control panel basically does the same command, just with different view options.  As the version you're using is a bit dated, I'll just ask that you retry with a more recent release of BRL-CAD as soon as new binaries are posted.  Release 7.16.8 should be posted soon and that or the next release should have Windows binaries.  In the meantime, that's hopefully a workable work-around.

    Hi Sean,
    Here is the output from the Raytrace Control Panel.
    The pop up window doesn't launch, however, the rt command also works ok on this region.
    I'm was just working through the tutorial so the rt command should be fine and I'll watch for an update.

    A new 7.20.0 release has been posted with some changes to the Windows display manager that may help the popup window work.  When Windows binaries get posted, feel free to see if the problem is still there.  If it is still there, then it's probably work a bug report.  Otherwise, we'll keep an eye out for others with the same problem.  Thanks!
