When I try to run NIRT in command line mode in Windows, NIRT commands will not execute.
Examples:
nirt> s
' Enter '?' for helps
nirt> dir
' Enter '?' for helpdir
nirt> xyz
' Enter '?' for helpxyz
nirt> '?'
' Enter '?' for help'?'
nirt> q
' Enter '?' for helpq

Running with the -f scripting option produces similar results.
I can run with the -e option although it only lets me enter a single line of commands (no returns allowed in command string).

I am running BRL-CAD 7.14.8 for Windows in Windows XP with Service Pack 3
I am running nirt from the DOS Command Prompt
BRL-CAD is installed in c:\Program Files\BRL-CAD\7.14.8
.g models are located in the \bin directory with the nirt executable.

If you would, please try the latest 7.18.0 release for Windows to see if your problem is still an issue. The nirt tool has been changed numerous times since 7.14.8.

    Downloaded and installed BRL-CAD 7.18.0.

NIRT.EXE does not run for me in Windows version of BRL-CAD 7.18.0.

Also note that MGED is unable to initialize gui in Windows version of BRL-CAD 7.18.0.

Readme notes for BRL-CAD 7.18.0 indicates that BRL-CAD 7.18.0 Windows installer is reported to be installing a non-functional BRL-CAD.

Ignore this statement in previous comment:
"Also note that MGED is unable to initialize gui in Windows version of
    BRL-CAD 7.18.0."
Able to run MGED gui from start menu shortcut.
    Still cannot run NIRT.EXE.

The issue with NIRT on windows was confirmed and recently fixed. The fix will be in the upcoming 7.18.4 release of BRL-CAD. That release is being posted this week. Thanks for the report!

This issue has been resolved in the latest (unreleased) version of the source code. Thank you for bringing the issue to our attention! You're welcome and encouraged to test and make sure this issue is resolved after the next source release of BRL-CAD.
