#2 increase look and feel robustness
Make app feel more robust. It doesn't crash that much right now but it feels kind of awkward:
- current location icon shouldn't disappear on screen rotate
- selected item should stay selected after screen rotate
- (maybe) all threads should shut down immediately when the back button is pressed on the main screen. Currently it waits for the thread to complete
