Hi Myles, as you may have noticed, there hasn't been much fuzz around boson in the last couple of, err, quite a while :) All the original programmers are busy either studying or making a living, and it seems the 3d people (of which I was one) face the same troubles. But as boson is open source, this doesn't mean thats a problem. We'd obviously love to have you work on the 3d models, and I'm sure some of the subversion- masters would find a way to let you add them to the repository. Not too long ago, I've heard one of our programming experts hint that he still 'has plans' for boson, and even more recently, I've come across http://aloogobi.nl/?p=4 So, if you're still interested, I'd advise you to talk to him about his plans for boson (and keep us updated on this list), get to know subversion (there's tortoise-svn on windows) and you're good to go. Of course, if you want to actually play the game, you need to get acquainted with linux too. If you need help with any of that, this mailing list is the right place for questions. Back then, the models were created using 3D Studio MAX, which is why we used .3ds files. It's a shame. Boson looked really promising. It could just be me, but there seems to be a lack of RTS games on Linux, and Boson was really progressing in a good direction. If it was at all possible for me to pick up the code and help work on it I would. Hi, while I appreciate the efforts to keep bugzilla clean of old or obsolete bugs, I do NOT appreciate it if someone suddenly closes ALL bugs of one of my projects without even asking or at least giving a warning. Boson may not be actively developed on at the moment, but that doesn't mean that it can't be in the future. And in particular it doesn't meant that dozens of bugs suddenly become invalid. Well, upstream admits that sound in boson is particularly bad and they suggest disabling the sound anyway. I agree, there is a problem with the sound in the old library where commands are repeated twice for everything. Hello, There is a new library for the OpenAL API which is called OpenAL Soft. This new library is OpenAL 1.1 compliant, and is considered the replacement for the deprecated OpenAL SI (openal-0.0.8). Direct rendering is NOT enabled! 3d acceleration is DISABLED. Boson will run very slowly (seconds per frame instead of frames per second). If you are sure that your 3d drivers are installed correctly and support 3d acceleration, please let us know about this problem and help us fixing it: bos...@li... Well, it is... Hi, i read that you need some models, I'm no artist and am a bit skeptic about you being dependant on qt and kde, but I recommend you to take a look in http://virtualworlds.wikia.com/wiki/3d_models_list a wiki for free game media, please be careful when choosing models, I recommend strongly against the use of CreativeCommons-NonCommercial licenses, as they are very agains the GPL spirit, there are nice gpl models too in the wiki though. Please cc me a copy of any reply, as I am not on the mailing list, thank you. OK, I tried Boson on my notebook (Ubuntu), and I liked it, but the notebook overheats with some games, and crashes... So I want to put Boson on my desktop, which is a FreeBSD 6.2 setup. Unfortunately I'm getting compile errors, and this particular game is not in the ports tree. I started by creating build/ in the main Boson directory, and cd'ed to that, as in the direction. I ran 'cmake ..' and it went through without error. Next I ran 'sudo make install' in the boson directory, with the error attached at the end.
