BOR3D Announcements

Here we will tell you about development progress and releases.

First (alpha) Release!

Although the documentation has not been completed yet we are releasing BOR3D this week as an alpha version. This version will contain a few examples. The most important ones will be a VFH descriptor trainig implementation as well as a corresponding recognition implementation. It will be able to recognize the object as well as their orientation (yaw). Other examples will comprise dumping Kinect Data to a file and color based scene segmentation.

Version 0.1!

The preliminary version (0.1) for review by the robotics team of Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences is out for two weeks now. We have already assigned a term project to a student interested in 3D registration techniques who is sucessfully providing bored with corresponding classes.

First milestone is delayed!

Development of BOR3D is well under way. However we will not be able to publish a release as promised in the description of our first milestone which is due today.

For the ones who are following our progress we would like to say a few words as to why the release is delayed: In fact, since the beginning of the project in late October 2011, we already had a working prototype of BOR3D and we were pretty satisfied with the user interface we were able to provide. However since the library strongly relies on community contributions we also needed an easy interface for developers to integrate their code into BOR3D. We have been improving this interface for contributers ever since and hope to finish work on this topic within the next week along with the 0.1 release.
