I am using 2.4.19, so there would be no such xor and round-robin information
in the proc file?

Welcome to the list.
Technically, modes 0 and 2 are both "load balancing", but mode 2 has an
optimization inside of it. The code at
Line 2095 shows that you should be seeing the text "load balancing (xor)"
in mode 2 and "load balancing (round-robin)" in mode 0. This is for the
2.4.20 (unpatched) version of the kernel. What version are you running?
