My most wanted feature for Bochs is... the Intel i430FX chipset!
I tried to find the i430FX specs on the web, but the only link I found is broken. Implementing other chipsets in Bochs is possible if we have specs for it. Can you point me to the specs of this chipset? If not, you should stop requesting this feature. I hope you'll understand that we cannot write any code without having some documentation for it.
O.K. Volker, I found the documentation.
Unfortunately this is only an update for the specs that fixes bugs in the doc or reports bugfixes in the chipset. It doesn't contain enough information to start writing code for the TSC and TDP components. I already have the PIIX specs here, they are compatible with our pci2isa and pci_ide implementation.
However, I attached the missing documentation on the "Oops..." post.
The i430FX_2.pdf file contains the TSC and TDP info.
The initial version of the i430FX support is present in SVN now. The core is almost compatible with the i440FX chipset. The "pci: chipset" option now accepts the parameter "i430fx". The Bochs BIOS is now compatible with this chipset. Tests with original BIOS images are still to do (I haven't found one yet).
Thank you Volker.
Here is an original BIOS image.
Believe it or not, I found that BIOS image on the American Megatrends website.
I tested the S728P.ROM image and it freezes emulation.
I mean, the S728P.ROM doesn't work...
Here I attached some zipped documentation of the Aladdin V chipset from Acer Labs, Inc.
(also known as ALi).
The S728P.ROM cannot work in Bochs since it tries to determine the size of the memory modules and we don't support that. Implementing it might be possible, but I guess it would slow down the memory access.
When it will work?
It used to work, AFAIK.
I mean, on older versions of Bochs it worked.
Can you guys implement it?
But, by the other side, will make all memory accesses more accurate.
We're still missing DRAM module detection modes on Bochs.
This is the Intel 945P datasheet.
It's required to add i945P emulation.
And here is the Intel 865PE chipset datasheet.
