Hello All, Sorry again for cross-posting. And sorry for the late evaluation. Here are the final Zaurus Challenge Results: Thomas 3 Mohammad Rashid 2 Ahmad 1 Chichi 1 As Thomas does not want to be included in the evaluation, the Zaurus goes to Mohammad Rashid. Congratulations! I'll hand it over as soon as possible. Only two RFE's to win the PDA. I think this is not too difficult. I would like to announce another challenge for November: Win a 17" monitor (hardly used). However, I cannot promise delivery for this one. The same conditions as for the previous challenge apply. You can watch the intermediate results throughout the month on my blog: http://sdteffen.blogspot.com Regards, Steffen |

Hello All, sorry for cross-posting this to several mailing lists. I would like to award a Sharp Zaurus PDA to the most active contributor to DCMMS, BMFO, DC Water Design, DC Processing and DC Sewer Design for the next month. I would also like to encourage non-programmers to participate. There are lots of things where you can help: * bug hunting and documentation * writing documentation and tutorials * creating RFEs These activities make up more than 50% of my work on the above projects. I will choose the most active contributor at the end of September. The PDA is a Shap Zaurus SL-5500G including 64MB SD card, 128MB Compact Flash card and Compact Flash WLAN card. DC employees: I don't want to offer benefits for your DC work, please make sure that your contributions are clearly visible as private activities. Ramadan Kareem! Steffen |

Hello All, BMFO 1.2.4 is available from http://bmfo.sourceforge.net Thanks to Hussein, Baha and especially Ahmad who have contributed to this release. This is mainly a bug fix and maintenance release that also adds a new "Meter Location Report" to the application. When upgrading, please make sure that you follow the instructions in the administration guide. The release also contains a number of fixes for the Access Control system. However, it is not possible to install these updates automatically. If you are still having problems with your ACL implementation, please put these problems forward so that we can solve them. Regards, Steffen |

Hello All, I'm having problems reproducing bug #1546448 (Saving the WIS export file using Internet Explorer). https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1546448&group_id=72204&atid=533722 If you are able to reproduce the problem, could you mail me the exact BMFO version you are using and the exact internet explorer version and its Service Packs? Mine is for example 6.0.2900.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 with SP2 Thanks in Advance! Regards, Steffen |

Hello All, Dieter originally requested to use the meter status for those cases where no reading status is available. As this feature seems to confuse people, I would like to collect some more feedback regarding this issue. Please take the time to visit the corresponding RFE entry to see the history of the issue. https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=838749&group_id=72204&atid=533725 If you need more information regarding this feature, let me know. Regards, Steffen |

Hello All, BMFO 1.2.1 is available for download from http://bmfo.sourceforge.net This is a bugfix and maintenance release that adds no new functionality visible to the end users. The documentation and installation process have been improved. For developers and administrators the major improvement is the move from PHP 4 to PHP 5. Scripts have been provided to transfer data (meter locations, administrative and operational areas from WIS to BMFO). See the administration guide for details. Regards, Steffen |

Hello All, BMFO 1.1.0 is out. This release adds a new report "Water Balance" that allows to generate a water balance according to IWA standards in the application. The water balance can be opened in Excel for further processing or formatting. In addition, the release contains some bug fixes as well as updated and improved documentation. As usual, the release is available from http://bmfo.sourceforge.net If you are interested in a CD containing all the required packages, let me know. Regards, Steffen |

Hello All, BMFO 1.0.7 has been released on http://bmfo.sourceforge.net This release introduced the possibility to aggregate meter readings along with per-user access control. Support for ORACLE 10g XE has been added along with a new GMED report. All PDF reports implemented using servlets now and also available in Excel format. Several bugs haved been fixed and documentation and installation process have been improved. Thanks to Abed, Ahmad, Wesam and Baha for their contributions and last not least the GTZ for sponsoring this release. In case you're wondering what happened to the the 1.0.6 relase: We skipped it because of a bug that crept onto the CDs and I wanted to have a clear version number to identify the possibly affected systems. The update option of the installer will take you from BMFO 1.0.4/1.0.5 to 1.0.7 I'm looking forward to your feedback. Regards, Steffen |

Hello All, after discussion with Philipp, I added two new RFEs: 1297330 and 1297325 The aggregation part will be tricky, the two new fields should be no problem. Please review the priorities on the RFE page: Are they correct? Are there still RFE's missing? Note that each RFE should only contain one feature as we cannot track the progress otherwise. Regards, Steffen |

Subject: [Bmfo-info] Administrator Skills
Hello All,
I would like to get you opinion if an BMFO administrator should be able to
perform simple edits to PHP files (Like add line soandso after line
soandso in file xy.php).
If that's not the case, it basically means that we have to do a BMFO
release every time
we want to perform a small fix/addition to BMFO. As we only manage to do
BMFO releases
every half year, it would take half a year until the BMFO users see the
changes they're waiting for.
What is your opinion?
Regards,
Steffen

Hello All, I just had a telephone conversation with Dieter. I understand that somebody in WAJ needs the data from the WIS Export file in Excel. While it is possible to open the SQL file in Excel and use it (hint: "," as separator), this requires some knowledge on the user level. I suggest that we take the report logic of wis_export_file.php and make it output an HTML table - you can open the HTML file directly in Excel and will see a nice table. This should just take 15 minutes. However, somebody has to file an RFE with the details of which fields the table should have in which order. Regards, Steffen |

Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hello All, I succeeded in creating a basic Live CD of the BMFO application based on KNOPPIX, a popular Linux Live CD. With a little bit more input, it should be possible to resolve the remaining issues: * PDF reports are not not functional * Internationalization is not functional * Graphs are not functional These issues are mostly simple PATH adjustments because the application moved from the default development environment Windows to Linux for the CD. We'll try to separate all these settings in a configuration file for the next release. In addition, we should add links to the application to the desktop and replace some of the KNOPPIX graphics with BMFO ones. The CD should also include the BMFO source code along with the Windows BMFO installers. The Live CD allows to run the application on most computers without installation and is therefore the ideal promotion tool for BMFO. Soon, it will also be the easiest way to install BMFO.
