Could you post how you install and use the program once it's been un-tgz'd? I'm on Win2K AND Linux (Mdk9.1) and would appreciate instructions for both.

on linux, you need python2.2.
just unpack the whole thing, go into the directory bmcclt, and start for example
./bzmap_medievalWall (enter)
it will show some help.
Most tools need options like x,y,z (300,200,0) (= 3D coodinates). The tools helps should tell you what they need...
The file demo/scene03.sh is a bash script I used to create bmcclt03.map (newest downloads) - there are some comments in the file.

If you only habe python2.3 (installed with Mdk's installer), you can try changing the first line in the file *objects.py.
I think there should be no problem, but I've not tested it with 2.3
