Collaboration functionality would be very nice in blueShare for this very t= hing. Don't quite know the best way to go about implementing it though. Ma= ybe just an instrument repository where all the instruments created there "= belong" to everybody? Of course, then there's SCM management issues to cons= ider (merges, locks, etc.). Hmm...=0A=0AAnyway, I agree on the standard no= te representation and preliminary interface. I'm sure, though, that it wil= l evolve as more work is done on it.=0A=0AMichael Bechard=0A=0A----- Origin= al Message ----=0AFrom: Steven Yi <ste...@gm...>=0ATo: blue users mai= ling list <blu...@li...>=0ASent: Wednesday, March = 14, 2007 3:31:18 PM=0ASubject: Re: [Bluemusic-users] Is anybody thinking ab= out developing a synthesized drum machine BSB?=0A=0AHi All,=0A=0AI like the= idea of a single drum instrument myself that could have a=0Acomplete kit o= f drums, then perhaps use presets to switch between=0Akits. I think lookin= g at all the drum synths out there, there's=0Anaturally going to be number = of designs that arise from this=0Acollaboration as there's going to be diff= erent types of drums we all=0Awant to use. I can imagine a physical model = drum synth, then one that=0Aemulates analag drum machines, then also newer = different ideas like=0AMichael is apparently working on (and I'm sure makin= g us all=0Ainterested to check out! =3D) ).=0A=0APerhaps one thing I can th= ink of that might be nice is to agree on a=0Asort of standard p-field set t= hat all the drum synths can share, as=0Awell as perhaps coming up with a co= nvention for note values to=0Acorrespond to drum types. That's one of the = really good advantages to=0Amusical systems based around MIDI is that if on= e learns midi channel=0A10 and how that maps, one has a good chance of swit= ching around=0Adifferent synthesizers and knowing a note is going to mean s= nare and=0Aanother bass drum, regardless of the quality of that sound. I t= hink=0Ait would be in the best interest of all of us too to find a baseline= =0Anote format that we could design around for drum synths, and perhaps=0Af= rom there come up with a template instrument that can set up the=0Abasic st= ructure for handling pfields, then we could all work to=0Aimplement the mai= n synthesis area.=0A=0AAs for how to collaborate, I'm not sure what's the b= est way. I could=0Acreate a "Collaborations" category in blueShare where w= e can upload=0Aand download from and that we can expect there to be somewha= t=0Ahalf-implemented stuff and be a place meant for us to share ongoing=0Aw= ork.
